The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has assured Ghanaians that work on the dualisation of the Accra–Kumasi highway remains a top priority, despite the government’s plans to construct a new Accra–Kumasi Expressway.
Speaking during an inspection and stakeholder engagement at Bunso in the Eastern Region, the minister stated that the Mahama-led administration is committed to completing the bypasses at Osino, Anyinam, and Konongo by the end of 2027.

According to him, the ongoing dualisation works on the existing N6 highway will continue alongside the proposed expressway project, stressing that both projects are intended to complement each other and improve transportation between Accra and Kumasi.
Mr. Agbodza explained that under ECOWAS regulations, the construction of an expressway requires an alternative road network, adding that the current Accra–Kumasi highway will continue to serve motorists who may choose not to use the commercial expressway.

The Roads Minister further assured contractors that government has no plans to abandon inherited projects, noting that delays on some sections were largely due to changes in project scope and rising costs.
He emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama has directed that all ongoing road projects across the country must continue to ensure improved connectivity, reduced travel time, and accelerated national development
