A multi-vehicle crash involving a passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck and a saloon car has brought traffic to a standstill on the N6 Accra–Kumasi Highway at Birimso Bridge, forcing police to divert vehicles in both directions.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the crash occurred on Monday, August 3, 2026, completely blocking the busy highway and disrupting traffic between Ghana’s two largest cities.
The collision involved a high-occupancy passenger bus, a fully loaded articulated truck and a saloon car. Authorities have not yet released details on casualties or the cause of the crash.
The Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) team from Kibi has been deployed to the scene to manage traffic and coordinate efforts to clear the obstruction.
To reduce congestion, police have introduced temporary diversion routes:
- Accra-bound traffic is being diverted through Kibi via Nsutam.
- Kumasi-bound traffic is being diverted through Apedwa.
Motorists have been urged to cooperate with police officers managing traffic and to use the designated diversion routes while emergency responders work to reopen the highway.
The N6 Accra–Kumasi Highway is one of Ghana’s busiest road corridors, serving thousands of passenger and commercial vehicles daily. Any disruption along the route often results in significant traffic delays and affects the movement of goods and travellers across the country.
Police have advised road users to exercise patience, follow traffic directions and approach diversion points with caution until normal traffic flow is restored.
