The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has decorated Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters with his new rank of Chief Inspector, following his bravery during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.
Inspector Atubra was invited to the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Monday, August 31, 2026, where the IGP formally decorated him with the new rank.
He was promoted in recognition of his courage, quick response and exceptional efforts to save lives and protect property during the fire outbreak on August 26.
Inspector Atubra was reportedly the first police officer to arrive at the scene after shops at the Aboso Main Lorry Station were engulfed in flames.
He immediately moved in to assist people trapped in the affected area and helped evacuate victims to safety.
Commending the officer, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno said his actions demonstrated the professionalism, courage and commitment to duty expected of police officers.
The IGP said the promotion was also intended to encourage other officers to remain dedicated to protecting life and property, particularly in emergency situations.
Inspector Atubra’s promotion follows commendations from eyewitnesses who witnessed his intervention during the fire.
The Police Administration says it remains committed to recognising and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional bravery, dedication and selfless service in the line of duty.
