A Police Inspector stationed at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region has been arrested for allegedly masterminding a series of armed robberies targeting mobile money vendors in Kumasi.
Inspector Bright Appiah Danquah is accused of robbing more than eight MoMo vendors across parts of the Ashanti Region, with victims accusing him of using his service weapon to terrorize and rob operators of huge sums of money.
One of the victims, Victoria Arkoh, narrated to Crime Check that the suspect allegedly attacked her at her mobile money shop at Santasi-Adiembra on May 4, 2026, making away with ₵38,600 in cash alongside personal belongings including her ATM card, Ghana Card, wedding ring, and mobile phones.

According to her, the suspect arrived at the shop on a motorbike pretending to carry out a transaction before launching the attack.
“He came on a motorbike and stood behind my shop where the entrance is. I asked him to stand in front of the counter so the CCTV could capture him. As I went inside to sit at the counter, he went to the back door, pointed a gun at me, and demanded all my money,” she recounted.
The victim said the traumatic encounter left her terrified.
“I urinated on myself, and it drained onto my one-year-old baby,” she added.
Victoria Arkoh explained that despite raising an alarm after the robbery, bystanders were too frightened to pursue the suspect because he was armed and escaped on a motorbike.
However, the suspect’s alleged criminal activities reportedly took a dramatic turn when he forgot his mobile phone during another robbery operation.

According to the victim, another MoMo vendor managed to escape during an attempted robbery after asking the suspect to enter the shop to collect money. In the confusion, the officer allegedly grabbed his gun but mistakenly left behind his mobile phone on the counter.
The abandoned phone later became a key piece of evidence that reportedly led investigators to identify and arrest him.
“Police checked the phone and found details confirming he was an officer,” Victoria stated.
She further disclosed that when the victim attempted to report the robbery at the Adiebeba Police Station, Inspector Bright had already earlier reported to police that his phone had been stolen and requested assistance to track it.
The case has since been transferred to the Central Police Station in Kumasi, where an identification parade was conducted.
According to the victim, four additional suspects, including two police officers and two civilians believed to be accomplices, have also been arrested and remanded into custody pending further investigations.
The incident has sparked public concern over growing attacks on mobile money vendors and the alleged involvement of security personnel in criminal activities.
Police are yet to issue an official detailed statement on the matter as investigations continue.
