The Wassa Dominase District Police Command has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video brandishing a cutlass and terrorizing people at the Agona-Amenfi Palace in the Western Central Region.
The suspect, identified as David Gyasi, popularly known as “Amowee,” was arrested on Friday, May 29, 2026, for causing unlawful harm and endangering public safety.

According to police, the Chief of Agona-Amenfi, Nana Kwaku Gyapong II, reported that the suspect, dressed in a talisman-embedded smock and armed with a cutlass, stormed the palace and attacked a man identified as Lord Kwaku, inflicting a cutlass wound on his right wrist.
Police say the suspect subsequently chased occupants of the palace and other residents with the weapon, creating fear and panic within the community.

Officers who responded to the distress call found a large crowd gathered at the palace. Despite repeated police orders to surrender, the suspect allegedly refused and continued his aggressive actions. He was eventually disarmed and arrested by police personnel.
Both the suspect and the injured victim were transported to the Roman Catholic Hospital in Asankrangwa, where they are receiving treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred shortly after the chief had officiated a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a laboratory and theatre block for the Agona-Amenfi Health Centre. The victim had reportedly been sent to the palace to retrieve a pickaxe when he was attacked at the palace gate.

The Western Central Regional Police Command says investigations are ongoing and has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the region.
