The Accra Regional Police Command says one suspected armed robber has been shot dead during a gunfight with police at Galoway, near Agbogbloshie.
Police say they received credible intelligence on Thursday, September 10, 2026, that four armed men on two motorbikes were heading towards the Shell Filling Station near Agbogbloshie for a planned robbery.
A police team from the Regional Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate, supported by the Operational Unit, moved to the area and encountered the suspects at the Galoway Police Barrier.
An exchange of gunfire followed, during which one suspect was shot. The other three allegedly abandoned their motorbikes and fled.
Police say an AK-47 assault rifle with a double magazine containing 136 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the injured suspect, along with an additional 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The suspect was rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for identification and autopsy.
Two unregistered motorbikes, a Royal and an Apsonic, have also been retrieved and are being kept as exhibits.
The Accra Regional Police Command says efforts are underway to identify and arrest the remaining suspects and establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged planned robbery.
Police say the operation forms part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to disrupt armed robbery and other violent crimes.
