The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 30-year-old Mavis Nkrumah for allegedly attacking her ex-boyfriend with a liquid substance suspected to be acid. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28, 2025, at Ablekuma Fan Milk, a suburb of Accra.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Mavis appeared uninvited at the residence of the victim, Gideon Frimpong, a 29-year-old taxi driver, around 1:00 a.m. According to police reports, she asked Gideon to drive her home, a request he obliged.

During the ride, however, they reportedly stopped near the “7 Days Stretch” area in Ofankor due to the rough terrain. It was there that Mavis is said to have confronted Gideon about the status of their relationship. Upon confirming for the third time that their relationship had ended, she allegedly poured the corrosive substance on him and fled the scene.

The victim was quickly identified by bystanders and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for burn injuries. He has since been discharged to report to the hospital daily for review and assessment.

Following an intensive search, suspect Mavis Nkrumah was apprehended by police on Monday, June 3, 2025, while attempting to flee into neighbouring Togo. She is currently in custody and assisting investigators with the ongoing case.

The Accra Police Command has condemned the act, stressing that violence is never a solution to personal grievances. The public is urged to seek lawful and peaceful methods of conflict resolution.

The Command further reassures the public of its commitment to safety and security and encourages citizens to report any suspicious or harmful behavior to the nearest police station.
