The Upper West Regional Police Command says it is actively investigating a shooting incident linked to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute at Funsi in the Wa East District, which has left three young men dead.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on the night of May 22, 2026, when officers at the Funsi Police Station received reports that two persons had been shot and killed at the Gbelonosi area of Funsi.

Police proceeded to the scene and confirmed the deaths of 37-year-old Fufulu Nandugu and 22-year-old Yussif Samahan.
During follow-up operations, a third victim, identified as 20-year-old Amadu Lukman, was also discovered dead within the community.
A reinforcement team, led by the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, has since visited the area to support ongoing investigations and help maintain law and order.

Police say 34 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
Several items were also retrieved, including a shotgun, bow and arrows, gunpowder, spent cartridges, talisman-embedded smocks, and a medallion, which police believe may be linked to tensions between rival chieftaincy factions.
All suspects and exhibits have been transferred to Wa to assist with further investigations.

The Police Administration has extended condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served.
Meanwhile, the Command is appealing to residents to remain calm, avoid reprisals, and support investigations by providing credible information.
Security has since been reinforced in the community, with intensified patrols deployed to prevent further violence and maintain peace.
