Bono Police Investigate Disturbances at Drobo Palace Over Chieftaincy Dispute

The Bono Regional Police Command has launched investigations into a disturbance and alleged unlawful destruction of property at the Drobo Traditional Council Palace in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region.

According to police, the incident was reported by the Krontihene of the Drobo Traditional Council, Nana Tanor Bediako, together with two others, on May 19, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m.

The complainants alleged that earlier that morning, about 15 men wearing red armbands stormed the palace and damaged the main entrance in an attempt to take control of the facility.

Police officers who responded to the scene found a crowd gathered at the palace forecourt, while part of the main entrance gate had been destroyed and removed from its hinges.

During the operation, police retrieved three pump-action guns loaded with 14 rounds of BB ammunition, as well as one single-barreled gun believed to belong to persons associated with the Omanhene. The weapons have since been retained as exhibits for investigations.

Preliminary investigations indicate that members of the Bosea family, aligned with the Drobo Queen Mother, allegedly moved to the palace following reports that the Omanhene intended to install some sub-chiefs despite an injunction they claim was secured from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs.

The group reportedly insisted their presence was intended to stop the installation process, but tensions escalated after they were confronted by supporters of the Omanhene, resulting in clashes at the palace forecourt.

The Bosea family further alleged that the Omanhene has gone into hiding to evade service of the injunction.

Police say calm has since been restored in the area, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest persons involved in the disturbances for prosecution.

The Bono Regional Police Command has urged all parties involved in the dispute to resort to lawful and peaceful means in resolving their differences, warning that anyone found violating the law will be dealt with accordingly.
