The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspected robbers believed to be behind a series of violent highway and street robberies in the Bolgatanga metropolis and along the Bolgatanga-Walewale highway.
The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe, popularly known as “Mosbee,” and Jacob Akugri, alias “Weezy,” were arrested in Kumasi on May 9, 2026, by a special team from the CID Headquarters Operations Unit after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance operations in Bolgatanga and Walewale.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were members of an armed robbery syndicate operating across the Upper East and North East Regions with AK-47 rifles and pistols.
Police say the gang allegedly robbed several victims of cash, motorbikes, and mobile phones during attacks on highways and within communities, with some incidents reportedly resulting in deaths.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted involvement in multiple robbery operations and identified the gang leader only as Issaka, together with another accomplice named Araafat, both currently on the run.
Investigators are now pursuing further leads to arrest the remaining members of the gang, including individuals suspected of supplying weapons used in the robberies.
The two suspects remain in police custody assisting investigations, while efforts continue to recover stolen items and identify other accomplices linked to the criminal activities.
