The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer at Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The victim, Seth Kobina, was attacked by armed men at his gold-buying shop on the night of August 20, 2026.
Police say the attackers shot him in the chest before fleeing the scene. He was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations, supported by CCTV footage, identified Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam,” 29, as the alleged leader of the gang.
He was arrested the following day at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. Police say a search on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
However, the suspect reportedly took ill while in custody and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die,” 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale,” 30; and Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial.”
A search at Quayeson’s residence at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region reportedly led to the recovery of another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
Police say Quayeson identified the deceased suspect, Emmanuel Amponsah, as the person who allegedly shot and killed the gold buyer. He also identified Thomas Odoom as one of the individuals captured in CCTV footage.
The four surviving suspects are currently assisting police investigations, while efforts continue to arrest other alleged accomplices.
