The Criminal Investigations Department, CID, of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a 27-year-old car dealer whose burnt body was discovered inside a vehicle near the Legon Bypass in Accra.
The suspect, identified as Wisdom Tetteh, was arrested in neighbouring Togo through an INTERPOL-assisted operation while allegedly attempting to sell the deceased’s mobile phone.
Police say the victim, Theophilus Ashitey Amarh, was found burnt beyond recognition inside a vehicle at Adamafio Link, off the Legon Bypass Road, on April 7, 2026.

According to investigators, the suspect was a close friend and neighbour of the deceased.
Preliminary investigations established that on April 6, 2026, Wisdom Tetteh allegedly lured the victim to his residence under the pretext of discussing a vehicle sale. Police say the suspect then attacked the victim and inflicted fatal head injuries.
Investigators further revealed that the suspect allegedly sold the deceased’s Hyundai Elantra saloon car for GH¢170,000 and received an initial payment of GH¢80,000.
Police say the following day, the suspect allegedly transported the victim’s body to Adamafio Link, removed the vehicle’s number plate and set both the vehicle and the body ablaze in an attempt to destroy evidence.
However, CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspect at the crime scene, providing investigators with a major breakthrough in the case.

The suspect was arrested on April 30, 2026, in the Republic of Togo and later handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the Aflao border before being transferred to the CID Headquarters Homicide Unit for further investigations.
On May 5, 2026, the suspect was arraigned before court and remanded into police custody.
Police also disclosed that a neighbour whose vehicle was allegedly used to transport the body has been granted enquiry bail and is assisting with investigations.
Due to the severe burns sustained by the deceased, police say visual identification was impossible. DNA samples have therefore been taken from the victim’s mother to support forensic identification and complete the investigation process.
