The Ghana Police Service has arrested the man captured in a viral video administering a substance suspected to be a cigarette to a child.
The suspect, Samuel Obeng Acheampong, was picked up on November 22, 2025, through an intelligence-led operation.
A release signed by the public relations officer of the Criminal Investigations Department, CID, of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Bridgitte Babanawo, said Acheampong, during interrogation, admitted to the act and told investigators that the incident occurred approximately five years ago.
Acheampong is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, and will be put before the court.
The Police Service reiterates its commitment to safeguarding children and strongly cautions the public against any acts that endanger their safety and well-being. Individuals who abuse or expose children to harm will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
