Ghana’s Faisal Abubakar fought cautiously and steadily on Saturday night to outpoint slippery Ugandan Latibu Muwonge in an ardent contest to win thevWBO Africa Super Lightweight title at the Lord’s Wembley Plus at Shukura in Accra.
The international bout put up by new promoters, Priceless Life Entertainment was well arranged and attended, giving the fighters and fans the morale and vim to display.
Latibu kept running away from Abubakar to avoid the immense punches and not to be knocked out but at the end of the 12 rounds the swellings on his face was the evidence that he has been hit most and was the loser, which he accepted and congratulated the new champion from Ghana.
Faisal Abubakar, a Zongo boy won on the cards 116-112, 120- 108 and 118- 110 and had a kingly ride as he was carried home by his numerous fans after he was awarded the belt by the WBO Africa representative. Mr. Samir Captan supported by Ghana Boxing Authority officials.
Young promoter Edwin Elikem Amenyeawu, CEO of Priceless Life Entertainment presented a branded watch from Caveman to the winner and commended the fans for their discipline.
Faisal Abubakari (16 -0-13kos) of the Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation Gym who gave Muwonge his first defeat will be ranked 15 by the WBO.
Latibu Muwonge (8-1-0) who holds the African Boxing Union (ABU) Super Lightweight title was not interested in a rematch as admitted he was the loser, but hoped to fight in Ghana again as the atmosphere of the bout was great, acknowledging Ghana as a boxing nation and proud to fight and not knocked down in Accra.
“I have been waiting for this chance for a long time and I want to thank my manager and promoter for making me a continental champion” Faisal Abubakar aka Agbaa said after the 12 hot rounds.
Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President Abraham Kotei Neequaye hailed the new champion and urged him to keep on working hard as the world title is possible.
Present at the event was the CEO of Fight Africa who supported the promotion.
