Budumburam Tragedy: 23-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Poisoned by Boyfriend Over ₵100 Dispute

A suspected case of domestic violence has shocked residents of Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region, after a 23-year-old woman allegedly lost her life following a dispute with her boyfriend over a small sum of money. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death intensify.

Shock and grief have gripped the community of Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District following the death of a 23-year-old woman, Theresa Darkoah, who is alleged to have been poisoned by her boyfriend after a dispute over one hundred Ghana cedis.

According to available information, the suspect, Kofi Emma, popularly known as Blackee, had reportedly been financially supporting Theresa in an attempt to sustain their relationship. Trouble is said to have started when Theresa requested GH₵100 from him to repair a faulty fan. Although the money was sent, she allegedly stopped responding to his calls afterward.

Sources say the suspect became enraged and demanded a refund, issuing threats when his calls went unanswered. When Theresa declined to return the money, the suspect allegedly poisoned medication meant for her and sent it through a third party.

Theresa’s health reportedly deteriorated shortly after taking the medicine, prompting a rush to the hospital. She was later pronounced dead, with medical officers confirming that she had ingested a toxic substance.

The suspect fled the area shortly after the incident and is currently on the run. The Buduburam Police Command has since launched a manhunt and is urging anyone with credible information on his whereabouts to assist law enforcement.

The tragic incident has once again brought renewed attention to issues of domestic violence, emotional abuse, and conflict escalation within intimate relationships, as residents call for justice for the deceased.

Investigations are ongoing.
