Police in the Ashanti South Region have disrupted a planned robbery operation in Obuasi, leading to the arrest of two suspects linked to a recent armed attack on a foreign national and another foiled robbery target.
According to the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, officers acted on credible intelligence received on April 16, 2026, indicating that a group of armed men were preparing to launch an attack within the Obuasi enclave.
A police team swiftly moved into action and arrested suspect Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being part of a six-member gang responsible for a robbery attack on an Indian national at his residence in New Baakoyeden on April 12, 2026. The gang is said to have made away with ₵150,000 during the operation.
Police investigations revealed that the robbery was allegedly facilitated by an insider tip-off from an employee of the victim, identified only as Ibrahim, who reportedly informed the gang that the victim kept large sums of cash at home.
Further intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” on April 20, 2026, at his hideout in Gausu.

Police say the suspect admitted to participating in the planning of the robbery and disclosed that the gang had also targeted a distribution company located near Mawuli Hotel, before the plot was foiled by police intervention.
Investigators further revealed that both suspects are currently standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court in connection with a separate robbery case involving ₵600,000.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the remaining accomplices identified only as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim. Authorities believe the suspects may still be in possession of a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol believed to have been used in previous operations.
The Police Service has assured residents of continued intensified intelligence operations in the area to clamp down on criminal activities and ensure the safety of lives and property.
