The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has arrested two men over separate videos containing alleged inciteful and offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.
The first suspect, Masud Abdullah, 35, an Imam, was arrested in connection with a video in which he allegedly made statements advocating violence against people who speak ill of Prophet Mohammed.
Police say preliminary information indicates that the comments were made during a sermon at a mosque at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
In a related development, the Police Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team arrested Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, alias Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, after he was allegedly seen in a separate video making derogatory and offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be taken through due process.
The Ghana Police Service has cautioned religious leaders, preachers, community leaders and social media commentators against using freedom of religion or expression as a justification for statements that could incite violence or encourage people to harm others.
The Police said such utterances may constitute offences and warned that persons found culpable will be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.
The Service is also urging the public to exercise restraint and report potentially inciteful content through the appropriate channels rather than resorting to violence.
