Police Arrest Woman over Alleged Abduction of 9-Year-Old Girl at Agormanya

Police in the Eastern Region have arrested a 36-year-old woman in connection with the alleged abduction of a nine-year-old girl at Agormanya Zongo in the Odumase-Krobo District.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect, Regina Mamle Tawiah, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, following swift investigations and intelligence-led operations by the Odumase-Krobo District Command.

Police said the case was reported on Sunday, April 19, 2026, after the victim’s father lodged a complaint that his daughter had left home and failed to return.

Subsequent investigations led officers to track the suspect to the Kotoka International Airport, where she was arrested with the child with support from personnel of the Bureau of National Investigations.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was allegedly attempting to send the child to Kenya before her arrest. The victim has since been safely reunited with her father.

The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges. She has been remanded into Police custody and is expected to reappear in court on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station to help prevent similar incidents.
