Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a dramatic gun battle with police after attacking a mobile money vendor at Tema Community 5.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., when the suspects targeted a female MoMo operator at Aba Fosuah Plaza.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that one of the suspects, who was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike, approached the vendor pretending to make a cash-out transaction. As the victim reached for her phone to process the request, the suspect suddenly pulled out a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash.
The victim reportedly resisted, prompting the motorbike rider to join the struggle. During the confrontation, the pillion rider shot the woman in the leg, forcing her to release the bag. The suspects then fled the scene on the motorbike.
A nearby police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit, deployed for security duties at a nearby event, quickly responded to a distress call and pursued the suspects.

Upon reaching a junction near Smart Hotel at Community 6, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the pursuing officers. Police returned fire, and during the exchange, both suspects sustained gunshot wounds and fell off the motorbike.
The injured suspects were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of a black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with ammunition, three Android mobile phones, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key, and an amount of ¢11,390. Police also recovered one spent cartridge from the robbery scene.

Investigators later confirmed that the Ghana Card found on the suspects belonged to the robbery victim.
Meanwhile, the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the robbery, is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Tema Regional Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining safety and security and has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
