The Western Central Regional DOVVSU Command has arrested a woman, Elizabeth Acquah, popularly known as “Yaa Lizzy,” for publishing false information that caused public fear and panic.

According to police reports, the incident began on 2 November 2025, when Joseph Cann, 22, was travelling from Tarkwa to Bogoso with his girlfriend, Felicia Ofori Atta, 20, a student. A misunderstanding arose between the two, prompting Joseph to stop the vehicle at Yareyeya, a community along the Tarkwa–Bogoso road, to resolve the issue privately.

While the couple were addressing their disagreement, the suspect—who was attending a funeral in the area—allegedly confronted Joseph and falsely accused him of kidnapping his girlfriend. She is further reported to have assaulted the victim, recorded videos of the couple and their vehicle, and published the footage on social media with claims that a child had been kidnapped.

The false content quickly went viral, creating significant public fear and panic within the region.

Following a complaint filed by Joseph Cann on 17 November 2025, the Western Central Regional DOVVSU Command arrested Elizabeth Acquah.

The Regional Police Command is urging the public to refrain from circulating false information and reminds citizens that spreading misleading content on social media is a criminal offence punishable under Ghanaian law.
