The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a key suspect believed to be behind a recent wave of motorbike thefts reported across various parts of the city.

On June 24, 2025, a resident of Madina reported that his red Royal motorbike, registration number M-25 CW 367, was stolen overnight from his home. Acting swiftly on intelligence, police tracked and arrested Emmanuel Akanpatiba, who was found in possession of the stolen motorbike.

During interrogation, Akanpatiba confessed to the crime and named Israel Fredrick Lomotey, currently at large, as his accomplice.

Further investigations have linked the suspect and his network to at least 12 motorbike thefts across Madina, Adenta, Lapaz, and Teshie within the past month.

The suspect also identified Nurudeen, Ali, and Inusah—all based at the Agbogbloshie Onion Market—as the main receivers of the stolen bikes.

According to the Head of Public Affairs, Accra Region, Superintendent Juliana Obeng Akanpatiba admitted that he typically breaks the steering locks of parked motorbikes, transports them to Agbogbloshie, and sells them for between 2,000 and 3,000, depending on the bike’s age and condition.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and recover additional stolen motorbikes.

The Accra Regional Police Command is urging the public to take extra precautions in securing their motorbikes and personal property. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects or any stolen motorbikes is encouraged to contact the police on 18555 or 192.
