A 29-year-old woman, Augustina Adoma, is in the custody of the Accra Regional Police Command for alleged arson and attempted murder following a violent domestic dispute in Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.
The suspect is reported to have set fire to her ex-boyfriend’s belongings and later stabbed him during a heated confrontation. The victim, 30-year-old driver Emmanuel Otabil, remains hospitalized after undergoing emergency surgery and is currently responding to treatment.
According to preliminary police investigations, the incident began on the morning of Thursday, 26th June 2025, when Augustina visited Otabil’s residence unannounced and found him with another woman. In a fit of rage, she allegedly poured a bucket of water on the couple, seized Otabil’s Samsung mobile phone, and left.
Around 4:00 p.m. the same day, Augustina reportedly returned while Otabil was away. Using a duplicate key, she gained access to his kiosk and set fire to several personal items, including a mattress, carpet, and beddings.
Later that evening, when Otabil confronted her about the incident and demanded his phone, a violent altercation ensued. Augustina allegedly picked up a knife belonging to a nearby orange seller and stabbed him in the left side of the chest.
Otabil was initially rushed to the Race Course Hospital, transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital, and later referred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery.
During ongoing police investigations, Augustina reportedly went to the Tesano Police Station in an attempt to submit a medical report and file an assault complaint against the victim. She was arrested at the station, and the victim’s mobile phone was recovered from her.
The Accra Regional Police Command has urged the public to seek peaceful and lawful avenues to resolve domestic or relationship-related disputes. The Command emphasized that no individual has the right to resort to violence or take the law into their own hands.
