The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat of death against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo.
The 46-year-old was arrested following a video circulating on social media in which he is alleged to have made the threat.
Police say Ayitey Powers is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command says investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and determine the appropriate action under the law.
Police are also urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.
