29-Year-Old Man Jailed 14 Years for Defiling 3-Year-Old Girl in Wa

A 29-year-old tricycle rider, Naah Mashood, has been sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a three-year-old girl at Tiegber in the Wa Municipality.

The Upper West Regional Police Command says the convict was arrested on February 24, 2026, by officers of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), following a complaint from the victim’s mother.

According to police, Mashood had been engaged by the child’s parent to transport her to and from school. However, on February 24, 2026, he allegedly lured the child to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her inside his tricycle, locally known as a Cambuu.

Following investigations, he was first arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court and subsequently stood trial at the Wa High Court.

After a full trial, he was found guilty of defilement. On October 30, 2026, Justice Osei-Wusu sentenced him to 14 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has commended the officers involved in the investigation and prosecution, as well as others who contributed to securing the conviction.

The Command has urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and take steps to protect children. It has also encouraged the public to report suspected cases of child abuse and defilement to the nearest police station or DOVVSU office.

Police say they remain committed to protecting children and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual offences are brought to justice.
