A 38-year-old suspect arrested for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old stepdaughter has reportedly died by suicide while in Police custody at Agyei Krom in the Central Region.

According to Police sources, the incident occurred on Saturday, May 10, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m., shortly after the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Cudjoe, had been arrested earlier that same day around 5:00 a.m.
The Station Officer at the Agyei Krom Police Station was informed by the Counter NCO that the suspect had allegedly hanged himself in the cells using a torn edge lining from a blanket he had slept on.

Following the report, officers from the Elmina District Police Command together with the Regional Crime Scene Management Team proceeded to the station to investigate the incident.
Police say the suspect was found hanging against the wall inside the cell. Preliminary observations at the scene reportedly revealed no visible marks of violence on the body.
Investigators noted that the deceased used a strip torn from the edge of the blanket as a ligature, which was firmly tied around his neck.

The deceased, Emmanuel Cudjoe, was identified as a carpenter and a native of Ayensudo, a suburb of Elmina.
The Crime Scene Management Team processed the scene before conveying the body to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty.
The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue pending autopsy.
Police say relatives of the deceased have been informed, while investigations into the incident are ongoing
