Police Warn WASSCE Candidates: Celebrate Responsibly or Face Arrest as Exams End Friday

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned final-year Senior High School students across the country to celebrate responsibly as they prepare to complete the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Friday, June 19.

In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Police urged candidates to remain disciplined, law-abiding, and avoid any acts that could jeopardise their future prospects.

The Service warned that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other forms of criminal behaviour often associated with post-examination celebrations carry serious legal consequences and could derail the academic and professional ambitions of students.

According to the Police, any student found engaging in unlawful conduct will be arrested and prosecuted.

The caution follows two recent incidents of student unrest in the Upper East Region that resulted in the arrest of six students.

At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment.

In a separate incident at Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested for alleged rioting, assault on school staff, and the destruction of both school and private property.

The Police Service is therefore calling on students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to work together to promote discipline, respect, and peaceful celebrations after the examinations.

The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID.
