The Ghana Police Service says it has arrested five suspects in connection with the alleged trading of firearms, following intelligence-led operations conducted between June and July 2026.
The Police say the operations by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police led to the recovery of eight AK-47 assault rifles, one SMG rifle and two foreign-made pistols.
The suspects have been identified as Munkaila Yusif alias Karyima, 34; Abdulai Fatawu Boniface, 32; Abdallah Imrana Gomda, 43; Sualesu Sheriffa, 20; and Ibrahim Adams alias Ibru, 35.
According to the Police, the five suspects have been remanded into custody by the Accra Circuit Court, with the case adjourned to Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The Police say other suspects believed to be involved in the alleged weapons trade are still at large and are being pursued.
The latest arrests form part of a wider intelligence-led crackdown on armed robbery and illegal firearms networks across the country.
The Police are urging the public to provide credible information on suspects still at large at the nearest police station or through the Police Emergency Line 191. They say information provided will be treated confidentially.
The allegations against the suspects are yet to be tested before the courts.
