Police in Accra Launch Investigation into Alleged Assault on Joy FM Journalist During Chairman Wontumi’s Arrest

The Accra Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the alleged assault of Joy FM journalist Latif Iddrisu during the arrest of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The incident occurred on May 27, 2025, at the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), where Chairman Wontumi had been detained as part of ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities.

According to the Police, all available evidence—including video footage and eyewitness accounts—is currently being reviewed to establish the facts of the case and identify any persons responsible for the alleged assault.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights of all individuals, particularly members of the media, and ensuring that the rule of law is upheld in the course of all its operations.
