Two suspects in connection with the deadly robbery attack on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.
A combined team of officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate Headquarters, the Anti-Robbery Unit, CID Headquarters, and the Ashanti South and Ashanti Regional Police Commands undertook the operation leading to the arrest.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, led to the tragic death of Berekum Chelsea Football Club player, Dominic Frimpong.
Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police deployed a special intelligence team to support the Regional Command in tracking down the perpetrators.

On April 15, 2026, an intelligence-led operation at Atimatim in Kumasi led to the arrest of suspected gang leader Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” and another suspect, Bawa Gideon, after the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire on police officers.
Police retrieved several exhibits from the suspects, including a pistol loaded with two rounds of ammunition, eleven BB cartridges, pepper spray, desert boots, assorted mobile phones, and clothing believed to have been used during the attack.
During interrogation, Mohammed Ahmed reportedly admitted involvement in multiple robbery incidents, including the Nkawie robbery, the Fufuso mobile money vendor attack, and the robbery that targeted the Berekum Chelsea team bus.

He also named accomplices identified as Dauda, Huefe, and A.T., who are currently on the run and have since been declared wanted by police.
The injured suspect, Mohammed Ahmed, is currently receiving treatment under police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while Bawa Gideon remains in police custody, assisting with investigations.

Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects, who will be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law.
The Police Command has commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and has also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation and support.
