The National Identification Authority (NIA) has said that the El-wak Sports Stadium special service center will close on October 31.

The Authority opened the registration center at El-Wak a few months ago to make it easier to get a Ghana card or to replace one that was lost or stolen.

In a statement, the NIA said that people who had updated or replaced their cards but had not yet picked them up should go to the Greater Accra Regional office at Kinbu in Accra.

In a statement, the authority said, “Applicants who want to change their information or get a new card should go to the nearest NIA District or Regional Office.”

It also said that anyone who wants to ask about the card verification should do so at its head office in Shiashi.

At the same time, the Authority says that it has given out 15,826,148 Ghana cards out of a total of 16,627,325 cards. As of the end of August this year, 17,109,627 people had signed up for cards.

Professor Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, who is the Executive Secretary of the NIA, recently spoke at a press conference in Accra and said. At the same time, his organization says that there were some problems with issuing the cards, so it can’t be blamed if some people still don’t have theirs.

He said that some Ghanaians didn’t use the different chances to get their cards at the decentralized levels.

“We still have some cards that were given out during mass registration in 2020. A monitoring exercise took me to Koforidua about three months ago. I called a person whose card was ready and told them to come get it. The person said that it wasn’t time to pick up the cards and that he would come get them when he needed them.

He has, however, told people who haven’t picked up their Ghana cards yet that they should do so so that the institution can get rid of the piles of cards that are waiting to be picked up.
