
A 27-year-old trader Emmanuel Kofi Asare has exploded with a bombshell at the Circuit Court in Accra, accusing police officers who caused his arrest of bribery and corruption.
Asare, charged with unlawful possession of narcotics plants, claimed police demanded GHc4,000 each from him and a friend to settle the case.
His friend whose name was not given, he alleged was able to make the payment to secure his freedom.
But his GHc1,500 which was not enough was not accepted, hence the decision of the police to put him before the Court for prosecution.
The trial judge -Her Honour, Mrs Susanna Edufful – after hearing these allegations has since ordered the Crime Officer of the La Police station to appear in Court and respond to the allegations against his men.
Asare had pleaded not guilty to the charge before the Court and was admitted to bail in the sum of GHc50, 000 with two sureties with documentation worth the amount.
The case has been adjourned to May 7, 2025.

The Prosecution said, on March 24, 2025, the complainant and witness were in charge of the La District Police Patrol Team when information was received to the effect that there were some people gathered at a certain location in La Wireless area, peddling in Narcotic substances.
It stated that, the complainant led the team to the said location where accused person was arrested together with some quantity of plant substances suspected to be narcotic plant in his possession.
The Prosecution said, some of the people manage to escape arrest and bolted. But, the accused was brought to the station together with the suspected narcotic plants to assist investigation.
The suspected narcotic plants, according to the Prosecution, has been forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for test and report.
Following from that, the accused was brought per the charge as contained in the charge sheet before the honorable court.
