One person has been confirmed dead, others injured, and several kinds of wood burned at a timber market near Bawku police station.
the incident happened Tuesday, August 23, during curfew hours.
Bawku has been on curfew since November last year following the renewed chieftaincy conflict.
The unidentified gunmen reportedly attacked the timber market during curfew hours and killed one person.
Others, including watchmen on duty at the market, were also injured.
The attack, which occurred at 1:00 am Tuesday, happened about 100 metres away from the Bawku district police station
The residents say they have lost trust in the security and will now be awake to take the security of their lives and properties.
The divisional police commander, chief superintendent Adamu Seidu, said the police and military strength is insufficient to be everywhere every time but promised to fish out the perpetrators.
He appealed to the affected persons to remain calm as investigations continued.
The latest burning of property in the municipality is the third in the last two months.
The incident happened two days after the overlord of Kusaug, Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, issued a warning to his subjects urging them to desist from unwarranted and baseless attacks on innocent persons.
The Zugranaa also called on the security to tighten their grips and ensure the area’s safety.
