Fighting Smuggling-Customs Officer Assaulted by Driver, Conductor and Passengers

A driver and his conductor and passengers have allegedly assaulted a Customs officer on duty at the Ghana Revenue Authority at the Zebilla Customs checkpoint for stopping a Kumasi-bound vehicle with suspected smuggled goods.

The victim, Junior Revenue officer, JRO, Bright Alagbo, was rushed to the Zebilla district hospital, where he undergoes treatment and later discharged.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday September 24, 2022.

 JRO Bright Alagbo, who was on duty, reportedly stopped a Zebilla-Kumasi bound vehicle at the Zebilla customs check point for routine checks.

The officer reportedly noticed some wrapped items concealed under the seats of the passengers in suspicious ways and demanded to know the owners of the parcels for further checks.

In the process, the driver and his conductor reportedly pounced on the customs officer and assaulted him for demanding to know the content of the parcels.

Some passengers and other drivers reportedly aided the two to delt with the customs officer and but for the timely intervention of the police, his story would have been told differently.

The driver and his conductor who duely arrested by the police but was later granted police enquiry bail.

They are to be charged and put before the court on Thursday September 29.
