In spite of its pivotal role in ensuring the wellbeing, reformation and welfare of inmates of the various prisons in the country, the Ghana Prison Service remained one of the underserved state institutions in the country. Till date, the service depends on 1.80 cedis as feeding grants for inmates per day.
Health care services are another major area of concern most prison establishments depend mainly on public health systems for even first aid health care for inmates.
These challenges prompted the prison ladies association, PRILAS, and some well-meaning retired prison officers to come out with a ngo called the corrections reform platform.
Director-General of the prison service, Isaac Kofi Egyir, commended PRILAS, for its foresight.
The unveiling of corep coincided with the inauguration of the new executive of the police ladies association.
