Police Arrest Two Suspected Drug Dealers; 170 Parcels of Suspected Indian Hemp Seized

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and seized 170 parcels of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp during an intelligence-led anti-drug operation in the Tamale Metropolis.

The operation, carried out by the Regional Special Operations Team, popularly known as Red Maria, took place at Katanga on Monday, July 27, as part of intensified efforts to crack down on drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.

Police first arrested 32-year-old Godwin Yamegi, who was allegedly found in possession of two parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.

During interrogation, investigators say he identified 33-year-old Seth Amekuse as his supplier.

Acting on the intelligence, officers proceeded to Seth Amekuse’s residence at Katariga, where a search uncovered an additional 168 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

In total, 170 parcels were recovered and have been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit for forensic examination and further investigations.

Both suspects remain in Police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court after investigations are completed.

The Northern Regional Police Command has commended members of the public for their continued support and urged residents to provide credible information on drug trafficking and other criminal activities, reaffirming its commitment to keeping communities safe through sustained law enforcement operations.
