The Ghana Police Service has arrested an alleged romance scammer accused of defrauding several women through fake marriage promises and blackmailing them with intimate images.
The suspect, Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, is alleged to have posed as a pastor conducting online church services on Instagram, where he convinced women that God had revealed they were destined to become his wives.
According to the Police, the suspect gained the trust of his victims by visiting their families and presenting them with promise rings before allegedly obtaining intimate images, which he later used to extort money.
Investigators say the suspect also lured some victims into a fictitious car tyre importation business, collecting thousands of dollars under the pretext of shipping and clearing containers of tyres before disappearing.
Police further allege that he shared some of the victims’ intimate images with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is accused of threatening the victims.
Seven victims have so far reported the matter to the Police, with investigations tracing the alleged offences back to 2021.
The two suspects have been arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court. Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng has been remanded into Police custody and is expected to reappear before the court on August 6, 2026, while Sally Akosua Amoasah has been granted bail.
The Ghana Police Service says it is receiving additional complaints from other possible victims and is urging anyone who may have experienced similar incidents involving the suspect to report to the nearest Police Station to assist with ongoing investigations.
