Two Nigerians Arrested in Tamale Over Murder of Compatriot

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, whose body was discovered in his residence at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested while allegedly attempting to flee into neighbouring Togo through the Tatale route following an intelligence-led police operation.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, his wife Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor, were all living together in a three-bedroom apartment at Sanzirigu.

Investigators were dispatched to the residence after receiving reports that the deceased had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.

Police said the victim had sustained a deep cut to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. The bedroom had also been ransacked, suggesting a violent attack.

Crime scene investigators recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the assault, along with other evidential materials for forensic examination.

The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed the victim dead before it was deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said the two suspects were intercepted on the same day as they attempted to escape through Tatale and were later handed over to the Tamale District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with investigations.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to kill the deceased, claiming he had withheld proceeds from alleged internet fraud activities in which they were involved.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the deceased’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables.

All the recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, July 13, 2026, as investigations continue.

The Northern Regional Police Command says it remains committed to ensuring that everyone connected to the crime is brought to justice and has appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to support the fight against crime.
