A driver has been convicted and fined after his concrete mixer truck discharged a sizeable quantity of concrete onto the Madina-Adenta Highway, creating a danger and obstruction for other road users.
The Madina Divisional Police Command, through its Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), said the incident occurred on Saturday, September 5, 2026, about 100 metres from the Zongo Junction Traffic Light.
The vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz concrete mixer truck belonging to Betonsa Ghana Limited and registered GE 4891-14, reportedly left the scene after the concrete was discharged onto the highway.
Police said they received information about the incident and proceeded to the location to begin investigations.
Further enquiries led officers to the premises of Betonsa Ghana Limited at Spintex, where the Transport Manager was engaged.
On Tuesday, September 8, the driver, Solomon Tawiah, was brought to the Police by the Transport Manager and charged under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2519) with:
- Placing construction materials and equipment on the road;
- Causing danger to a road user; and
- Obstruction of an intersection or pedestrian crossing.
Tawiah subsequently appeared before the Madina District Magistrate Court, where he pleaded guilty to all three charges.
The court imposed a fine of 25 penalty units on each count, with the sentences to run consecutively. Police said the driver has since paid the fines.
The Madina Divisional Police Command has commended members of the public whose information enabled officers to respond to the incident.
The Command is also reminding drivers and transport operators that activities involving public roads carry serious safety responsibilities, and that actions that endanger or obstruct other road users can have legal consequences.
