The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into a shooting incident involving a police officer that occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, around the Tetegu area near Weija, which resulted in the death of a taxi driver.
Preliminary police findings indicate that a policewoman allegedly shot a taxi driver following a confrontation. The victim, who was driving a Hyundai i10 taxi, was rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Further investigations revealed that after the incident, the policewoman was knocked down by a vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene. She sustained injuries to her head and both legs and is currently on admission, receiving medical care.
Police say exhibits retrieved from the scene include one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one spent 9mm cartridge, all of which are being examined as part of the investigation.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that full investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
The Service has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in handling incidents involving its personnel.
