Seven Notorious Highway Robbery Suspects Arrested, Firearms and Exhibits Retreved in Accra

The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be responsible for a series of violent robberies across the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions.

The suspects are linked to an armed robbery attack carried out on 29th November 2025 at Peduase in Aburi, where they allegedly attacked a residence while armed with firearms, robbing occupants of mobile phones, jewellery, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Following intelligence-led investigations, personnel of the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), working jointly with their Accra Regional counterparts, arrested suspect Kofi Ishmael, aged 32, on January 6, 2026, at Avenor in Accra. During interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the robbery and identified Kwame Bediako, also known as “Star Boy,” as the ringleader of the gang.

Acting on this information, police arrested Kwame Bediako at Ablekuma Agape. A search conducted at his residence led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun concealed within a fence wall, along with four (4) BB cartridges. The suspect admitted involvement in several robbery cases.

Further investigations revealed that the gang had been operating along major highways and roads, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw, Juaso, and the Kumasi stretch. Police say the suspects were preparing to embark on another robbery operation at the time of their arrest.

The seven suspects currently in police custody include:

  • Salia Mohammed, alias Kwaku Nuah, aged 27
  • Kofi Ishmael, alias Ishmael Addo or Kofi Ketewa, aged 32
  • Kwame Bediako, alias Star Boy or Nkokorpor (ringleader)
  • Kwadwo Kalovi, alias Aticho
  • Mumuni Abdul Razak, alias Mogambo, aged 39
  • Kwasi Akambuley, alias Kwasi Fresh, aged 27
  • Kwame Bonsu, alias Killer Ntua

One of the suspects is currently on admission, receiving medical treatment. Police say investigations are ongoing to arrest other accomplices still at large.

The suspects have also been linked to several previous robbery cases involving market women and motorists, including a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life. Police further revealed that some of the suspects had jumped bail in earlier cases that are still pending before the courts.

Exhibits retrieved so far include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones, and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to dealing decisively with criminal activity and has urged anyone with information that may assist ongoing investigations to report to the nearest police station.
