Afienya MTTD steps up road safety education ahead of Christmas festivities

The Afienya District Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has carried out a road safety sensitisation exercise as part of measures to reduce road traffic crashes ahead of the Christmas festivities.

The exercise, held on Monday, December 23, 2025, was led by the Afienya District Commander, DSP Stella Nasumong, together with officers from the unit. The team engaged commercial drivers and motorbike riders across the district, urging them to exercise caution and adhere strictly to road traffic regulations during the festive season.

Key issues highlighted included the dangers of excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Motorbike riders were also educated on the need to possess valid rider’s licences, ensure proper documentation for their motorbikes, wear approved crash helmets at all times, and comply fully with traffic laws.

Participants welcomed the initiative, describing the engagement as timely, practical, and educative.

The Afienya District Police Command has assured motorists and riders that similar road safety sensitisation exercises will continue across the district to promote compliance with traffic regulations and safeguard lives during and beyond the festive season.
