The Ministry of Health has acknowledged a query issued to Staff Nurse Bernice Aboagye, which has been circulating on social media, regarding alleged unprofessional comments made against the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

In response, signed by the Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Minister, Tony Goodman, commended the Ghana Health Service, GHS, for its swift action in upholding professional standards and the Code of Conduct governing health workers.

However, Akandoh has appealed to the Service to temper justice with mercy in addressing the matter. He noted that both he and the government remain open to constructive criticism and divergent views, emphasising his commitment to fostering tolerance and openness in the health sector.

The Minister also urged all health workers to express their opinions responsibly and respectfully, cautioning against the use of insults or language that undermines professionalism. According to him, responsible dialogue contributes to the healthy growth and development of Ghana’s health system.

The Ministry further reiterated that it does not oppose demonstrations, recognising them as legitimate expressions of frustration and a constitutional right. However, it cautioned that such actions must be carried out without acts of indiscipline or abusive language.

Finally, the Ministry of Health reminded all health professionals to be circumspect in their public communications and social media engagements, underscoring the need to uphold the integrity and image of the health profession.
