Gunmen Kill International Driver on Trans-ECOWAS Highway in Northeast Region

A young international driver from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, met his untimely death at Wulugu, near Walewale in Ghana’s Northeast Region, after being attacked by unknown gunmen.

The victim, reportedly in his forties, was travelling along the Trans-ECOWAS Highway from Bolgatanga to Tamale when he was shot dead.

According to local sources, the attackers fled the scene immediately after committing the crime.

Meanwhile, two separate attempted attacks occurred on Saturday afternoon in Walewale. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

the just four days ago, another tragic attack at Binduri resulted in the deaths of three people, highlighting growing security concerns in the area.

Earlier today, gunmen also targeted another vehicle, but the driver managed to reach a nearby police station safely, avoiding further tragedy.

A witness at the scene expressed frustration, noting:

“We tried to get them, but they managed to get to a police station. It’s painful. They’re lucky the car isn’t theirs, but this boy’s car. We told them to leave, and they refused.”

Security agencies are urging drivers and travellers to exercise extreme caution along the route as investigations continue into the recent wave of attacks.
