The Central North Regional Police Command in Assin Fosu has arrested three suspected armed robbers in connection with a violent midnight attack on a gold buyer and a farmer at Assin Ntow-Krom in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
The suspects, Godwin Kwabena Mensah (28), Kwadwo Frimpong (20), and Kwabena Antwi (30), are believed to be part of a five-member gang that stormed the residence of Kwabena Amos (37) and his younger brother Richard Kumah (33) at around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Armed with a triple-barrel pump-action gun and machetes, the assailants fired multiple gunshots during the robbery, with at least eight shots discharged. Kwabena Amos sustained severe injuries, including a machete wound and significant facial trauma after being struck with a gun barrel, an assault that seriously affected his right eye.
His brother, Richard Kumah, escaped unhurt, a survival his family attributes to spiritual protection. Despite an intense physical struggle, the attackers were forced to flee without their intended loot.

At a press briefing, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, Central North Regional Police Commander, revealed that the suspects had visited the community days earlier under the pretence of seeking employment — a tactic now believed to be part of their surveillance operation.
He confirmed that the arrests were the result of swift intelligence-led efforts. Alerts were dispatched to all regional checkpoints, leading to the apprehension of the suspects and the retrieval of crucial evidence: two pump-action guns, a sharpened machete, nine spent cartridges, and a talisman believed to have been used for spiritual protection.

“We are intensifying efforts to arrest the remaining accomplices. This operation is a clear demonstration of our unwavering commitment to fight armed robbery and protect lives,” said DCOP Acquaye.
He praised the bravery of the patrol team involved in the operation, which included a brief but intense exchange of gunfire.

DCOP Acquaye further warned criminals in the Central North Region to desist from illegal activities or face decisive police action. He emphasized that the police remain on high alert and will pursue all offenders relentlessly.
“This is only the beginning. Our broader strategy to restore peace and order in the region is well underway,” he added.

He also urged individuals involved in armed robbery, land guard operations, and other criminal acts to reform, stressing that the law will catch up with all offenders.
