The Police have restored order at Ofankor on the Achimota-Pokuase road following a riot on Wednesday morning that resulted in the blockage of the highway by people suspected of being landguards.

The police said the riot was in relation to a land litigation issue.

The youth, primarily traders, expressing their discontent said they had rented the space and regularly made payments.

However, occupants were reportedly harassed in the early hours of the day by armed men reportedly sent by the landowners.

This led to chaos, with affected residents forming large blockades and burning tires to express their displeasure.

But the police in a statement said it has since opened the road to traffic and beefed-up security in the area.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the landguards involved in the incident shot some people resulting in injuries.

“One of us has been shot dead. Others were also injured and have been conveyed to the hospital,” Joy Online quoted a resident as saying.

The Police said investigation was ongoing to get the perpetrators arrested
