Uganda’s main opposition leader Kizza Besigye has failed to meet a 10-day deadline to launch a legal challenge against President Yoweri Museveni’s victory in last month’s election.

Lawyers representing Mr Besigye and his Forum for Democratic Change party said he couldn’t file papers in court because police have blocked him from leaving his home.

Another opposition candidate Amma Mbabazi, who came third in the poll, has managed to submit his petition calling for the annulment of the election.

BBC Newsday’s Bola Mosuro asked Mr Besigye why his lawyers didn’t hand in a petition on his behalf
