Six Held as Police Retrieve Guns in Adwoa Safo Shooting Investigation

The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a police statement, the suspects were arrested following investigations into the incident, which occurred on June 21, 2026.

Police say a subsequent search operation led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment believed to be linked to the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Police Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers established that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, popularly known as Akofena, aka. Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, when Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was denied entry.

Police investigations further revealed that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to the former lawmaker. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.

The arrested suspects, together with the retrieved weapons and other exhibits, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.

The Ghana Police Service says efforts are underway to identify and arrest all other persons connected to the incident.

Investigations remain ongoing.
