Robbery Trail Ends in Deadly Police Sting as Stolen Hilux and iPhone Recovered

The Ghana Police Service has recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux pick-up vehicle and other key exhibits following an intelligence-led operation into a violent residential robbery that left a suspect dead.

The operation follows a robbery incident on 4 December 2025, when armed men stormed the room of a female complainant and made away with her Toyota Hilux pick-up, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other personal belongings.

After weeks of sustained intelligence gathering, police tracked a key suspect identified as Clement Kofi Aidoo, also known by several aliases including Joseph Abequaye, Yaw, and Paddy.

According to police sources, when officers moved in to effect the arrest, the suspect attempted to attack them. In the process, he was shot and injured and rushed to the Police Hospital for medical treatment. He was later pronounced dead while receiving care.

A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of the stolen Toyota Hilux, the complainant’s mobile phone, and several documents believed to be linked to criminal activities.

Further investigations revealed that the same suspect was allegedly involved in another crime in November 2025, when he absconded with a Toyota Camry belonging to a police officer. The officer had reportedly engaged the suspect through a recruitment agency to care for his ailing father. That vehicle was later recovered in the Central Region after the suspect abandoned it during a police chase.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its unwavering commitment to tracking criminal networks, recovering stolen property, and protecting lives and property.

Police say investigations into possible accomplices and related criminal activities are ongoing, as they continue efforts to dismantle violent robbery syndicates across the country.
