Residents of Anloga Call on Police to Clamp Down on Notorious Landguards

Residents of Anloga in the Volta Region are living in a state of fear as 55-year-old notorious land guard known as Agbenyega Julius Kumasah Alias “Agbota” is allegedly unleashing terror and mayhem on indigenes and landowners in the town.

The land guard allegedly uses force, violence and intimidation to prevent and instruct lawful owners of lands from developing their lands.

According to the residents, the modus operandi of the land guard includes inviting the resident to his house with the linguist staff, to demand land documents from families who are living peacefully in the town for over 50 years, threatening their lives with offensive weapons and selling undeveloped properties belonging to families, including school parks among others.

Most of the residents told this reporter and pleaded for anonymity for fear of their lives, claimed that the notorious land guard who normally visits Benin and Togo for charms is now bringing strangers from the said countries. He is also reported to be having a series of meetings with them in his father’s house at Anloga Afatome.

His activities, the residents say raises security concern resulting in fear and insecurity on that part of the district.

“Some of us have abandoned the idea of going to farm on our own lands or put up our houses. The reason is just the fear of this man who do not only intimidate but sometimes go to the extent of threatening to kill us, just because we want to develop our own land” one of the residents lamented.

They said the situation is going from bad to worst with the land guard on a daily basis combing new developing sites and farms to terrorizing people.

“These notorious activities that he engages in with other accomplices for the past 10 years, fly in the face of the Anloga Pollice, the District and the Regional Security Council as well as the Awomefia of Anlo, Togbe Sri III,” another resident said.

The residents have since appealed to the Police Administration and the authorities to act swiftly and as a matter of urgency to investigate the operations of the land guard in the area in order to avoid unforeseen circumstances.
