President Mahama Commissions Katon360 Smart Classroom at Ghanasco; Boosts Ghana’s Digital Education Drive

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a state-of-the-art Katon360 Smart Classroom Block at Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale, marking a major step in his administration’s drive to digitalise teaching and learning nationwide.

The facility—fully equipped with smart boards, tablets, virtual learning systems, high-speed internet connectivity and solar-powered infrastructure—forms part of government’s broader mission to make education more interactive, equitable and technologically advanced.

The initiative is designed to close Ghana’s digital learning gap and give students the skills needed to thrive in the modern knowledge economy.

A School of the Future

Speaking shortly before the commissioning, Lawrence Hornovo, Head of Projects (West Africa) at Katon360, described the project as a game-changer.

“This is a full 21st-century learning experience,” he said.
“Every classroom is air-conditioned, connected to the internet, with tablets for every student and smart screens for teachers. The block is entirely solar powered. It’s a robust learning environment that prepares students to compete globally.”

Hornovo also addressed parental concerns regarding internet misuse.

“Parents should not worry at all. Every device has a tracker, and all unauthorised sites—including social media—are blocked. The system is strictly for academic work.”

He added that Katon360 has stationed technicians in every district and offers a structured maintenance regime, including a one-year warranty and on-site repairs.

Teachers and Students Already Feeling the Impact

Teachers at Ghanasco say the smart classroom has transformed their work.

Eric Addai, a Physics teacher, called it the best teaching experience of his career:

“The smart board summarises your work and shares materials with students instantly. Even when you’re not in class, you can upload lessons for them to study. It keeps everyone attentive and ensures no student is left behind.”

Students share the same excitement.

Iman Jeswinde Ismaila Abdul-Fatawu, a science student, said the Katon360 system has made learning more engaging:

“The tablets and virtual access to facilitators have changed everything. Learning is easier and more enjoyable. We are grateful to the President for this opportunity.”

Northern Ghana Gets Its First Smart Classroom Block

The Ghanasco Smart Classroom Block is the second of its kind in Ghana and the first in the northern sector. With the government’s renewed commitment to digital transformation in education, similar projects are expected to roll out to more schools across the country.

By integrating intelligent learning systems into mainstream education, the Mahama administration aims to prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s technology-driven world.
